The District Mineral Fund (DMF) Bhilwara has rolled out a fully equipped Silicosis Van under the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) to deliver comprehensive healthcare services directly to Rajasthan’s mining communities, which have long been affected by silicosis due to prolonged exposure to silica dust.
The initiative is aimed at addressing the health challenges faced by mine workers and residents of surrounding areas, providing timely access to essential diagnostics, treatment, and preventive care without the need to travel long distances to hospitals.
The mobile unit is staffed by a team of doctors, nurses, and medical technicians, and conducts 15–20 health camps every month. It is equipped to provide X-rays, blood tests, urine tests, and sputum tests, covering a total of 32 diagnostic procedures. In addition, it carries over 200 essential medicines to treat a wide range of illnesses, including those related to silicosis and other occupational hazards.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to the holistic development of mining regions, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to preventive and curative healthcare.
