Dimapur District Hospital Becomes Nagaland’s First Fully Digital Health Facility

By Team VOH

Nagaland has inaugurated its first fully digital-health model facility at District Hospital Dimapur under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The launch marks a major step in the state’s effort to modernise its public health system by shifting hospital processes from paper-based workflows to an integrated digital ecosystem.

The Dimapur facility brings all key hospital functions onto a single digital platform. Patient registration, record-keeping, clinical documentation, and follow-up procedures are now digitally managed, allowing smoother coordination between departments. The system incorporates core ABDM components, including the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), which enables the creation and maintenance of individual digital health records, as well as the Health Facility Registry (HFR) and the Health Professional Registry (HPR), ensuring that hospital details and provider information are digitally authenticated and accessible.

One of the most notable features of the upgraded facility is the “scan-and-share” service. Patients can scan a QR code on arrival to instantly share their digital health records with healthcare providers. This is designed to reduce waiting times, cut down on paper forms, and improve the flow of information between patients and clinicians. The process is expected to make consultations more efficient and reduce the administrative burden on hospital staff.

District Hospital Dimapur has been positioned as a model site to demonstrate how digital integration can enhance patient experience, improve coordination between services, and streamline overall hospital management. The state aims for this facility to serve as a blueprint for future digital-health upgrades across Nagaland, signalling a wider push to build a more efficient and technology-enabled public health infrastructure.
