Delhi Adds 70 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs In Major Healthcare Expansion

By Team VOH

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 70 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the capital on Tuesday, marking one of the largest single day expansions of the city’s primary healthcare system.

The new centres are spread across North, Central, West, Shahdara, New Delhi, South West, East, South, South East, North East and North West districts. Each facility is equipped to provide outpatient consultations, essential medicines, basic diagnostic services, maternal and child healthcare, immunisation and preventive health counselling.

With the latest additions, the number of functional Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Delhi is nearing 250. The government has set a target of establishing more than 1000 centres by March 2026. Several facilities also include laboratories to conduct routine tests, reducing the need for patients to visit larger hospitals. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is working to convert over 160 existing healthcare centres into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs as part of the expansion.

The health department has begun recruitment for doctors, nurses, pharmacists and technicians to support the growing network. Construction of permanent buildings on government owned land is underway to ensure long term stability for the centres. Officials expect the expanded network to ease the burden on major hospitals and improve early access to treatment and diagnosis for residents across the city.
