AP Chief Minister Naidu Announces Statewide Implementation Of Sanjeevani Digital Health Records Within A Year

By Team VOH

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the Sanjeevani digital health records system will be implemented across the state within a year.

Andhra Pradesh is set to expand its Sanjeevani digital health records system statewide within a year, building on a pilot project in Kuppam in Chittoor district supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The initiative aims to create comprehensive digital health records for the entire population of the state and integrate artificial intelligence into public healthcare delivery to strengthen disease surveillance, early diagnosis and cost‑effective care.

The Kuppam pilot demonstrated how digitised medical data linked with AI can support these outcomes and has prompted the government to extend the programme to all districts, covering residents in both urban and rural areas.

The statewide rollout was outlined during a review of health initiatives at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat, where officials said the focus will shift toward preventive healthcare by leveraging digital records. Digital health data is expected to help identify the top ten diseases affecting residents, facilitate policy decision‑making, and support efficient allocation of public health resources.

The success of the Sanjeevani programme and similar digital health initiatives will depend on effective implementation at the local level, with grassroots execution seen as critical to ensuring benefits reach citizens.

An expert advisory committee is involved in guiding the expansion and may lead the state in using artificial intelligence and digital health records for public health delivery.

Officials have been directed to hold consultations with experts every six months to continually evaluate and improve the Sanjeevani system and other digital health efforts. An action plan is also being prepared, based on expert recommendations, which proposes establishing a dedicated health secretariat to track and monitor public health outcomes related to the digital health records initiative.
