Andhra Pradesh Achieves India’s Highest ABHA Registrations At 4.84 Crore

By Team VOH

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in India under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission by creating 4.84 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts, covering about 96 percent of the state’s population.

The 14 digit ABHA number functions as a unique digital health identifier, enabling secure storage and access to an individual’s medical records including treatment history and diagnostic reports across healthcare facilities.

The state’s achievement has been driven by extensive field level implementation, including door to door surveys conducted under the non communicable disease programme, which significantly accelerated account creation. Around 7.50 crore electronic health records have already been linked with ABHA numbers, embedding patient data into the digital health ecosystem and supporting continuity of care.

As part of the mission’s national registries, Andhra Pradesh has registered 65,242 healthcare professionals on the Health Professional Registry and listed 26,083 hospitals on the Health Facility Registry, covering government health facilities across primary, secondary and tertiary levels. This integration strengthens interoperability between patients, providers and institutions.

To support digital adoption, the state government has installed approximately 1,900 computers across Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, primary health centres, urban primary health centres, secondary care hospitals and teaching hospitals. In recognition of its performance, Andhra Pradesh has received ₹22 crore in incentive funding from the central government since April 2023, in addition to its regular health budget.

The scale of ABHA adoption in Andhra Pradesh reflects the broader national objective of building a unified and interoperable digital health system that allows patients to securely share medical information with consent, reduces duplication of tests and paperwork, and improves efficiency and transparency in healthcare delivery.
