1 Crore Families Covered Under AB PMJAY-MA Yojana In Gujarat

By Team VOH

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government has expanded health insurance coverage by integrating the Central Government’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PMJAY) with the Gujarat Mukhyamantri Amrutum Yojana (MA), resulting in coverage for around 1.20 crore families across the state under the combined AB PMJAY‑MA scheme.

The annual insurance cover per family was increased in July 2023 from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh, strengthening financial protection for serious illnesses. Premium rates and total state expenditure under the scheme have changed over time, with premiums rising to ₹3,708 per family after the coverage increase, and total spending from July 11, 2024 to July 10, 2025 reaching ₹3,210.03 crore.

Across Gujarat, 2,090 hospitals have been empanelled under AB PMJAY‑MA, including 1,132 government and 958 private hospitals, offering 2,299 medical procedures and 50 specialised referral service (SRS) procedures as of November 2025. The state has achieved the highest ranking in claim settlement among states for this scheme.

In May 2025, the Gujarat Karmayogi Swasth Suraksha Yojana was launched to provide cashless treatment through AB PMJAY‑MA to state government officers, employees, All India Services officers, pensioners and their dependents, with approximately 6.40 lakh beneficiaries issued “G” series AB PMJAY‑MA cards.

The scheme has had an impact on individual lives, including a 66‑year‑old Ahmedabad resident who received financial assistance of ₹5.24 lakh for coronary artery disease treatment under AB PMJAY‑MA in May 2025 and later underwent a cardiac implant procedure in December 2025, reflecting broader access to advanced care for economically weaker and middle‑class families through the integrated health insurance programme.
