Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited will invest ₹500 crore to set up a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Assam, marking a significant expansion of its production footprint in Northeast India and strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity.
Mumbai-headquartered Sun Pharmaceutical is India’s largest pharmaceutical company and among the world’s leading drug makers, with more than 40 manufacturing facilities across five continents and operations in over 100 countries.
The project will be implemented in two phases and is expected to generate direct employment for over 500 people once operational. Sun Pharma is in discussions with the Assam government on key implementation requirements, including land acquisition, water and power availability, connectivity, and access to skilled manpower to support plant operations.
The proposed facility will incorporate a focus on sustainable manufacturing practices, with emphasis on efficient water use, greater adoption of renewable energy, and responsible waste management, in line with environmental and regulatory standards.
The investment aligns with the Assam government’s strategy to attract long-term industrial investment, enhance employment opportunities, and support inclusive economic growth in the state.
