By Team VOH

The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) has received 710 research project applications seeking financial support under the Promotion of Research & Innovation in Pharma MedTech Sector (PRIP) scheme, the government informed Parliament.

The proposals were submitted by industry players, start-ups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by the closing date of 19 November 2025. A number of these projects fall within the priority areas eligible for higher financial assistanceunder the PRIP scheme’s guidelines.

The PRIP scheme, launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, aims to transform India into a global hub for research and development in the pharmaceutical and medical technology sectors, supporting innovation from early-stage research to commercialisation.

The initiative has a total financial outlay of ₹5,000 crore, which includes funding for centres of excellence and project support across multiple categories.

Under the scheme, projects are appraised through a multi-stage evaluation process before approval of financial assistance, which may include full funding or higher levels of support for eligible proposals.

In addition to project funding, the DoP has also established seven Centres of Excellence (CoEs)—one each at seven National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPERs)—under Component A of PRIP, with ₹183.46 crore released for their setup as of 31 January 2026.
