Afghan Public Health Ministerial Delegation To Explore India’s Pharmaceutical Sector To Strengthen Public Health Systems

By Team VOH

An Afghan public health ministerial delegation led by Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalili, the Minister of Public Health of Afghanistan, is visiting India until 21 December 2025 to engage with the Indian pharmaceutical industry and explore opportunities for cooperation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

During the visit, the delegation is scheduled to meet Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers and stakeholders today to discuss the import of Indian pharmaceutical products, including traditional medicines, and to gain an understanding of India’s healthcare ecosystem as part of efforts to strengthen public health in Afghanistan.

The visit aims to encourage Indian pharmaceutical companies to consider opportunities within Afghanistan’s public healthcare system, improve healthcare standards, reduce dependence on substandard imported medicines, and significantly upgrade the technical capabilities of Afghan pharmaceutical facilities.

The meeting is being organised by the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil), which has invited Indian companies to engage directly with the Afghan delegation to explore avenues for trade, collaboration and investment in both the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

Last month, a trade delegation led by Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi, visited India between 19 and 25 November 2025, resulting in a USD 100 million memorandum of understanding signed in Dubai between Afghanistan‑based Raoufi International Group and Zydus Lifesciences of India.

Under that agreement, Zydus will initially export medicines to Afghanistan and eventually relocate a representative office to the country and begin local drug production, with technical data and know‑how transfer already underway.
