Zydus Lifesciences, an innovation-driven global life sciences company, has launched PEPAIR, India’s first affordable Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure (OPEP) device featuring a three-resistance system. The device is designed to help clear congestion, support effective mucus clearance, and improve breathing in patients suffering from COPD, asthma, and bronchiectasis.
PEPAIR is a drug-free, handheld device built on a patented design and offers a practical airway clearance solution for everyday respiratory care. In India, over 90 lakh patients are affected by chronic respiratory conditions, where chronic mucus hypersecretion remains a persistent challenge requiring regular airway management.
The launch follows an agreement with AeroDel Technology Innovations Pvt. Ltd., an Indian medical device company focused on simplifying inhalation therapy, drug delivery, and pulmonary rehabilitation.
OPEP therapy uses a handheld, translucent device that generates pressure and vibrations during exhalation, helping loosen mucus, open airways, and facilitate clearance. PEPAIR supports improved mucociliary function, reduces airway obstruction and cough, and enhances overall therapeutic outcomes.
Although OPEP-based airway clearance is recommended in established clinical guidelines, affordability has limited access for many patients. With PEPAIR, Zydus aims to bridge this access gap and make effective respiratory care more widely available across India.
