SS Innovations Performs World’s First Robotic Telesurgery for Weight Loss Using Mantra 3 System

SS Innovations today announced the successful completion of the world’s first robotic telesurgery for bariatric weight loss using its Mantra 3 surgical system.

The groundbreaking procedure connected SS Innovations’ headquarters in Gurugram with the Mohak Bariatric & Robotic Surgery Centre in Indore, covering a distance of over 560 miles. According to the company, the surgery was conducted with zero perceptible lag, high precision, and seamless robotic control—showcasing the Mantra system’s robust capabilities in long-distance, high-stakes procedures.

The operation comes just 15 months after SS Innovations conducted its first telesurgical cases with Mantra in April 2024.

In this historic event, Dr. Mohit Bhandari performed two one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) surgeries remotely from Gurugram, guiding his on-ground team in Indore.

“With the SSi Mantra 3, we haven’t just proven the potential of robotic telesurgery—we’ve redefined what’s possible in surgical care,” said Dr. Bhandari. “Completing the world’s first robotic bariatric telesurgery is an incredible milestone. It represents a new era of accessibility, equity, and excellence in healthcare.”

Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations, hailed the procedure as a transformative leap forward.

“This is a defining moment for the future of global healthcare,” Srivastava stated. “The success of robotic telesurgery using Mantra shows that distance is no longer a barrier. We’re enabling top-tier surgical care to reach underserved and remote regions—fulfilling our mission to democratize access to robotic surgery. Telesurgery eliminates the need for patients to travel, making healthcare more accessible, efficient, and affordable.”
