Samsung Launches R20: A Next-Generation, AI-Driven Ultrasound System for General Imaging

Edited By VOH

Samsung, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, has introduced the R20, a super-premium, next-generation ultrasound system designed to elevate general imaging. The new platform represents a significant advancement, combining powerful artificial intelligence features, enhanced image quality, and an ergonomically refined design aimed at improving clinician comfort and efficiency.

Powered by Samsung’s advanced Crystal Architecture, the R20 offers exceptional image resolution, penetration, and uniformity across a broad range of clinical applications. Its upgraded imaging engine, high-performance GPU, and ultra-high-definition OLED display work together to deliver precise visualization and greater diagnostic confidence.

The system integrates a wide suite of AI-driven clinical and workflow optimization tools that simplify complex procedures and automate routine tasks. Key capabilities include Live LiverAssist, which identifies suspicious focal lesions during live scans, and Live BreastAssist, which provides real-time breast lesion detection with BI-RADS classification and reporting. Additional AI-based automated measurement tools enhance consistency by detecting and quantifying internal structures with guided reporting. The R20 also incorporates Deep USFF, an AI-powered ultrasound fat fraction quantification technology shown to correlate strongly with MRI PDFF, the current gold standard.

Designed for versatility, the R20 delivers strong performance in abdominal, thyroid, musculoskeletal, vascular, breast, obstetrics, gynaecology, and urology imaging. Enhanced Doppler sensitivity and improved colour flow imaging enable clinicians to visualize subtle vascular structures and detect pathologies with improved precision.

The system also prioritizes user comfort and operational ease. Features such as lightweight transducer cables, an intuitive touch interface, and customizable configurations help reduce strain and support efficient workflows. These ergonomics-focused enhancements allow clinicians to maintain focus on patient care without fatigue.

With the introduction of the R20, Samsung strengthens its position as a leader in medical imaging technology. By combining AI-driven intelligence with superior imaging performance and clinician-centric design, the R20 is poised to redefine general imaging standards.

Beyond medical imaging, Samsung continues to innovate across HVAC systems, robotics, automotive technologies, and audio solutions through Harman. Through SmartThings and open collaboration across its ecosystem, the company is integrating AI throughout its portfolio to deliver a seamless, connected, and intelligent experience for users.
