Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art 3-Tesla MRI facility worth ₹25.9 crore at the District Hospital in Kargil, marking a major boost to advanced healthcare services in the region.
As per the media reports, Gupta said that geographical remoteness would no longer limit access to quality medical care. “This is a proud moment not just for Kargil but for the entire Union Territory of Ladakh. With this facility, residents of remote, hilly and border areas will now have access to world-class diagnostic services despite harsh terrain and climatic challenges,” he said.
The commissioning of the advanced MRI facility underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable and quality healthcare and represents a key step towards strengthening Ladakh’s public health infrastructure.
A 3-Tesla MRI is a high-strength magnetic resonance imaging system that uses a powerful 3-Tesla magnetic field to produce clearer, more detailed images of organs, tissues and blood vessels. Compared to conventional MRI machines, it enables faster scans, higher image resolution and more accurate diagnosis of complex conditions, particularly related to the brain, spine, joints and soft tissues.
