Illumina Inc., a global leader in genomics and sequencing technology, has announced that Illumina India has received the Top Global Capability Center (GCC) Award at the 2025 GCC Workplace Awards, hosted by the Zyoin Group.
This prestigious recognition highlights Illumina India’s achievements in building a world-class innovation hub, fostering an inclusive and people-centric workplace culture, and implementing forward-thinking talent strategies.
“Winning this award just a year after launching our GCC in India is a remarkable achievement,” said Ramesh Thamotharan, Director of Global Operations and Site Leader, Illumina India. “From the very beginning, our vision was to build more than just an operational center – we wanted to create a space where people feel respected, supported, and inspired. Whether it’s through driving advancements in human health, nurturing a strong culture, or crafting policies that empower our teams – this award is a tribute to everyone who has contributed to our journey.”
Now in its second year, the GCC Workplace Awards has emerged as India’s premier platform celebrating excellence in workplace culture and leadership across the country’s growing network of Global Capability Centers. With over 300 participating organizations and nearly 700 nominations, the platform recognizes those setting benchmarks in collaboration, innovation, and talent development.
“Being named a Top GCC among so many outstanding contenders is an honor,” said Jeyandran Chandrasekaran, HR Site Lead, Illumina India. “This award is a testament to our people-first philosophy, where every team member is encouraged to grow, innovate, and make a meaningful impact. We’re proud that our culture is not only appreciated internally but is also setting an example within the broader industry ecosystem.”
Illumina established its India-based Global Capability Center in Bengaluru in 2024, marking a major milestone in its global expansion strategy. The center supports Illumina’s worldwide operations and joins an international network of GCCs in Singapore, Cambridge (UK), Eindhoven (Netherlands), Shanghai, Madison (USA), Hayward (USA), and San Diego (USA).
The award underscores Illumina’s commitment to shaping the future of genomics through global collaboration, cutting-edge science, and an empowered workforce.
