VS Hospitals, a leading cancer care center in Chennai, has announced the launch of HOPE, the Holistic Oncology Program for Excellence, a pioneering framework that integrates targeted cancer treatment with AI-enabled nutrition support. Alongside this initiative, the hospital is introducing a dedicated Department of Precision Oncology, marking a major step forward in advancing diagnosis, reducing treatment burden, improving outcomes, and enhancing quality of life for patients and their families.
The new initiatives were launched by actress and social worker Ms. Rohini Molleti in the presence of senior oncologists, surgeons, and leadership from VS Hospitals. To further strengthen patient support, the hospital has entered into an MoU with Tweak & Eat, a US-based health and wellness AI company, to offer personalised, real-time meal plans, instant feedback on dietary choices, and continuous nutrition guidance during and after treatment.
As part of its comprehensive approach, VS Hospitals also operates a dedicated Familial Cancer Screening Clinic specialising in risk assessment. The clinic uses tools such as the CanRisk model to evaluate inherited cancer susceptibility and conducts germline testing to identify hereditary mutations that may increase future cancer risk.
The HOPE model is designed to bring together clinical accuracy, psychological care, nutrition support, rehabilitation, and patient navigation under one unified pathway. Patients receive coordinated care from oncologists, psychologists, physiotherapists, AI-assisted nutritionists, and trained navigators, creating a seamless and holistic treatment experience focused on both physical and emotional well-being.
The newly established Department of Precision Oncology will expand access to advanced genomic testing for accurate tumour profiling, personalised drug selection, and improved treatment planning. The department will support individuals at high or moderate risk through genetic testing, provide genetic counselling for hereditary cancers and rare diseases, and advance molecular-guided oncology through biomarker-driven treatment selection. With collaborations across global-standard laboratories and robust bioinformatics workflows, the department aims to deliver reliable, rapid, and cost-effective testing. Plans also include developing pharmacogenomics capabilities to optimise therapy and minimise side effects.
VS Hospitals is also highlighting the critical role of nutrition in cancer care, addressing challenges related to appetite loss, inconsistent dietary guidance, and poor adherence. Through the HOPE program and its partnership with an AI-powered nutrition platform, the hospital aims to provide consistent, personalized nutrition interventions that support better survival, treatment compliance, and overall quality of life.
