India’s private healthcare system has increasingly leaned towards an intervention-first model of childbirth, with caesarean section rates rising well beyond medically recommended levels. Addressing this growing concern, Superhealth has launched Superbirth, an end-to-end birthing programme aimed at restoring informed choice and balanced care for expectant mothers without compromising safety.
Launched in Bengaluru on January 20, 2026, Superbirth seeks to counter what experts describe as a widening imbalance in maternity care, where institutional convenience and financial considerations often take precedence over individual clinical needs. An IIT Madras study indicates that C-section rates in private hospitals have climbed to nearly 50 per cent—over three times the 10–15 per cent range recommended by the World Health Organization.
Superbirth is anchored in the principle that women should be fully prepared for childbirth and equally supported, whether they choose a vaginal delivery or require a caesarean section. Rather than advocating a specific mode of birth, the programme prioritises preparedness, safety, and continuity of care from early pregnancy through the child’s first year.
The programme is delivered across three integrated phases. The prenatal readiness phase, spanning weeks four to forty of pregnancy, includes comprehensive health assessments, genetic screening, fetal monitoring, and structured physical and emotional preparation. Evidence-based childbirth education, including Lamaze techniques, is complemented by mental and emotional support to enable informed decision-making.
During the labour and hospital care phase, women receive continuous monitoring and support for vaginal delivery, with immediate access to surgical intervention when medically necessary or consciously chosen. Care is provided through Superhealth’s multispecialty hospital infrastructure, featuring private rooms, advanced operating theatres, round-the-clock specialist availability, and emergency preparedness for critical complications.
A key differentiator of Superbirth is its extended postpartum and paediatric care, which continues for up to one year after delivery. Postnatal support includes physical recovery, mental health care, lactation assistance, and ongoing gynaecological services for mothers, alongside vaccinations and comprehensive paediatric care for infants during their first year.
The programme is delivered by a multidisciplinary team comprising Birthcoaches, midwives, senior obstetricians available 24/7, nutritionists, and fitness and movement specialists. These teams work collaboratively to support natural births where preferred, while remaining fully equipped for caesarean deliveries. Notably, there is no additional cost if a planned vaginal delivery transitions to a C-section at any stage.
Superbirth also addresses the complexity of maternity pricing by offering a single, transparent, all-inclusive package. Priced at ₹3 lakh, the programme covers consultations, diagnostics, scans, delivery—whether vaginal or surgical—private hospital stay, NICU care if required, and one year of postnatal care for both mother and child.
