Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital Launches South Asia’s First Photon-Counting CT – NAEOTOM Alpha

Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital has ushered in a new era of diagnostic imaging with the launch of the NAEOTOM Alpha – Photon-Counting CT, powered by the revolutionary QuantaMax detectors. Recognized as the world’s first photon-counting CT, this cutting-edge technology is now available exclusively at the hospital, redefining how doctors see inside the human body.

The NAEOTOM Alpha delivers unprecedented clarity, speed, and safety by providing ultra-high resolution images, ultra-low radiation doses, and complete spectral data in every scan. With microscopic precision of 0.2 mm slices, it can detect the smallest cancers, micro-fractures, and vascular changes that conventional CT scanners often miss. The technology also significantly reduces radiation exposure—up to 50% less—making it safer for children, sensitive organs, and patients requiring repeated follow-ups, all without sedation.

Cardiac imaging has been transformed with PURE Lumen capabilities, allowing exceptional visualization even in patients with stents or heavy calcifications. Walk-in, walk-out cardiac scans are now possible without the need for beta-blockers or breath-holds. The scanner’s built-in spectral imaging provides complete diagnostic insights in a single scan, reducing the need for multiple tests. Infants and high-risk patients can also benefit from faster scans, minimal radiation, and reduced contrast requirements, while the robust gantry design accommodates patients up to 307 kg.

Clinically, the NAEOTOM Alpha enhances capabilities across multiple specialties. In cardiology, it allows full-speed scans with detailed plaque evaluation, stent tracking, and myocardial perfusion analysis. Oncology patients benefit from early detection, precise lesion characterization, and reproducible measurements for treatment monitoring. Neurology applications include superior visualization of grey and white matter, small vessels, and aneurysms. Pulmonology assessments, including high-resolution evaluation of ILD/UIP and perfusion mapping for PE/CTEPH, are now possible at lower radiation doses.

Commenting on the launch, Nita M. Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, said, “At our Hospital, we have always envisioned bringing together the finest medical expertise, cutting-edge technology, and compassionate care to serve every patient. Introducing this new advancement represents yet another step forward in our commitment to delivering world-class healthcare to every life we touch.”
