NMC Chairman Presides Over 11th Convocation of ABVIMS & RML Hospital

The 11th Convocation Ceremony of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital was held today under the leadership of Dr Abhijat Chandrakant Sheth, Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC). The event was also graced by Dr Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), and Dr Vinod Kotwal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Congratulating the graduating doctors, Dr. Sheth lauded the students, parents, and faculty for their dedication and commitment to healthcare. He reiterated the government’s efforts to increase the number of doctors to meet the WHO’s doctor-patient ratio of 1:1000, while also striving to achieve a balanced UG–PG ratio of 1:1 to bring Indian healthcare at par with global standards.

Highlighting new reforms, he said the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences and the NMC are introducing skill-based and virtual learning alongside conventional methods to strengthen competency-based medical education. Urging students to stay resilient, he added that they should focus on their health, persevere through challenges, and remain lifelong learners.

Dr. Vinod Kotwal praised the graduates, stating, “This marks the beginning of your lifelong commitment to the health and well-being of the nation.” She congratulated ABVIMS on receiving NABH accreditation, describing it as recognition of the institute’s dedication to quality and patient-centric care. She reminded students, “Medicine is not just about curing disease; it's about caring for the patients who suffer.”

Addressing the graduates, Dr. Sunita Sharma remarked, “You are not merely receiving a degree today; you are shouldering a profound responsibility—to heal, to lead, and to serve the nation in whatever capacity you choose.” She encouraged them to let their careers be guided by empathy, evidence, and excellence. She emphasized, “This is a noble calling built on compassion and an unwavering commitment to human life.”

The convocation conferred degrees upon 250 postgraduate and DM students, along with the first batch of 100 MBBS graduates. The institute also released its annual report, Samhita, on this occasion.
