Massachusetts General Hospital and Siemens Healthineers Partner to Launch Therapy Command Center

Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), US, has partnered with Siemens Healthineers to establish a new Therapy Command Center, aimed at advancing theranostics across its network of facilities in Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire.

The newly created center will enable real-time data monitoring, support healthcare teams in clinical decision-making, and streamline data collection to optimize patient care. Theranostics — which integrates molecular imaging with targeted therapies — plays a critical role in assessing disease progression and evaluating treatment responses with greater precision.

“The Therapy Command Center provides a platform that integrates diverse patient imaging and laboratory data, enriched with population-level insights to improve individual outcomes,” said Dr. Umar Mahmood, Chief of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at MGH. “This collaboration will help expand the reach of theranostics throughout the region, pushing forward the goals of personalized medicine through precision diagnostics and customized treatment plans.”

Researchers from MGH and Siemens Healthineers will utilize cutting-edge imaging technologies, including the Biograph Vision Quadra and Biograph Trinion PET/CT scanners. Their research will focus on understanding how radiation affects molecular and biological processes, while also evaluating toxicity levels in both cancerous and healthy tissues of patients undergoing radiopharmaceutical therapy. These insights are considered essential for advancing personalized treatment strategies.

James Williams, Global Head of Molecular Imaging at Siemens Healthineers, commented, “This collaboration builds on a longstanding relationship between Siemens Healthineers and MGH that spans over two decades. Together, we aim to deliver innovations throughout the patient care journey, enabling precision diagnoses and highly personalized therapies.”

In a separate initiative announced in July 2024, Siemens Healthineers also entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Redhill Cancer Hospital, part of RVL Healthcare, to develop a Cancer Centre and Research Park in Nairobi, Kenya.
