Manipal Hospitals Kolkata Achieves 50 Successful TAVR Cases, Leads Eastern India in Structural Heart Care

Manipal Hospitals – EM Bypass (formerly Medica Superspecialty Hospital), Kolkata, proudly celebrates completing 50 successful Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedures, solidifying its position as a regional leader in structural cardiac interventions in Eastern India.

TAVR is a minimally invasive treatment for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are at high or prohibitive risk for open-heart surgery. This milestone reflects the trust of patients, advanced infrastructure, seamless teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to delivering life-saving care.

Globally, over 120,000 patients across 50 countries have undergone TAVR, and in India, about 5,000 procedures have been performed in the last decade. In Eastern India, Manipal Hospitals holds the record for the highest number of TAVR procedures.

Dr. Dilip Kumar, Director Cath Lab and Senior Interventional Cardiologist at Manipal Hospital – EM Bypass, said,
"TAVR is a breakthrough in treating complex valve conditions, particularly in elderly and high-risk patients. Completing 50 cases without complications is a testament to our expertise and patient-focused care. Catheter-based valve replacement is the future of cardiac intervention, and we are proud to lead this transformation in Eastern India."

Dr. Arindam Pande, Senior Consultant – Cardiology, added,
"TAVR offers hope to patients who had few options earlier. Unlike traditional surgeries, it avoids opening the chest, reduces anaesthesia risks, and enables most patients to return home within days. This achievement reflects our progressive approach to heart care."

Manipal Hospitals remains committed to expanding access to TAVR and leveraging cutting-edge technology and clinical excellence to ensure optimal recovery and improved quality of life for patients with structural heart disease.
