Ernakulam General Hospital has strengthened its healthcare infrastructure with the addition of advanced medical equipment worth ₹50 lakh, donated by the UAE-based Joyalukkas Group under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
The equipment was handed over to the hospital’s Department of Gastroenterology in a formal event attended by political and healthcare leaders.
The equipment package, sourced from overseas, is intended to enhance diagnostic and treatment capabilities within the newly established Gastroenterology Department. This marks a significant development for the hospital, which is recognised as the first general hospital in Kerala to introduce such a specialised unit.
During the event, the donation was presented in the presence of local representatives and health officials, reflecting collaborative efforts between corporate entities and the public health system to bolster services for patients. Additional funds are expected to be allocated to procure remaining specialised equipment based on the hospital’s requirements.
The contribution forms part of the Joyalukkas Group’s broader CSR initiatives in the healthcare sector, which include organising medical camps, distributing dialysis and diabetic care kits, and supporting various community health programmes across South India.
Alongside the donation presentation, healthcare professionals credited with advancing the department’s services were acknowledged for their roles, including a senior gastroenterologist who returned to India after an international medical career to serve in the public sector.
The enhanced equipment and specialised focus are expected to improve patient care for gastroenterological conditions and support the hospital’s growing role as a key government medical facility in the region.
