The launch event, held on August 13 at IIT Delhi’s Research and Innovation Park, was led by Dr Ajay Kela, CEO and board member of the Wadhwani Foundation, and Prof Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi.
Distinguished attendees included Dr Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO, Anusandhan National Research Foundation; Dr Taruna Madan, Scientist G, ICMR; Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator, AiMeD; Goutam Bhattacharya, CEO, Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council; Dr Nikhil Agarwal, MD, FITT, IITD; and Gagan Sharma, CEO, Proxmed Australia.
The WIN Centre at IIT Delhi will focus on advancing personalised medicine, rehabilitation, bio-imaging, AI-driven diagnostics, assistive technology for the elderly and disabled, customised implants, low-cost wearables, and affordable diagnostic tools.
In Phase 1, the centre aims to create a collaborative platform bringing together academia, industry, and government to accelerate healthcare innovations from lab to market—enhancing patient outcomes and boosting India’s position as a global healthcare leader.
This CoE is part of the ₹1,400+ crore investment committed by the Wadhwani Foundation, in collaboration with national partners, to strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem. Announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Yugm Innovation Conclave on April 29, the initiative spans multiple Centres of Excellence in priority sectors such as semiconductors, quantum technology, space tech, advanced computing, and healthcare.
Prof Rangan Banerjee noted, “Through the WIN Centre, IIT Delhi will leverage its expertise in biomedical technologies, AI, and engineering to deliver impactful healthcare innovations—from precision diagnostics and personalised treatments to affordable medical devices—addressing India’s needs while setting global benchmarks.”
