Hospital Information System Operationalised At PGIMER’s Sangrur Satellite Centre

By Team VOH

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, has operationalised its Hospital Information System at the PGI Satellite Centre in Sangrur with effect from January 1, 2026, marking a key milestone in the institute’s ongoing digital health transformation.

The rollout represents a significant step towards comprehensive digitisation of hospital services at PGIMER, aimed at improving operational efficiency, transparency and patient convenience. The same digital framework is planned to be further strengthened and replicated at PGI Chandigarh to ensure uniform, seamless and patient-centric service delivery across all PGI facilities.

In the first phase of implementation, core modules such as patient registration, billing, and admission–discharge–transfer have been made fully functional and are being used for routine hospital operations. Additional modules, including doctor’s desk, laboratory services, and stores and inventory management, are currently undergoing advanced training and trial runs and are expected to be rolled out shortly to complete the integrated digital workflow.

The Hospital Information System has been developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Noida, as part of PGIMER’s broader digital transformation roadmap. The Sangrur Satellite Centre, a 350-bedded hospital, is among the early adopters of this system, which is designed to streamline hospital processes, enable real-time data access, and enhance the overall quality of patient care.

The successful commissioning of the HIS at the Sangrur centre underscores PGIMER’s commitment to leveraging digital technology to strengthen public healthcare delivery and advance efficient, transparent and patient-focused services.
