The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, has carried out a reciprocal telesurgery involving two cities as part of the national-level scientific programme RoboSurg’25. In a coordinated remote procedure, surgeons at GMCH-Nagpur operated on a patient admitted in a Moradabad hospital through a robotic surgery system, while specialists in Moradabad simultaneously assisted in a surgery being performed on a patient at GMCH-Nagpur.
Both procedures were supported by an advanced robotic platform that enabled real-time surgical collaboration between the two centres. The telesurgeries were conducted live during the programme, which showcased multiple robotic procedures connected across different locations. The event aimed to highlight how robotic systems can be used to extend surgical expertise beyond the physical boundaries of a single hospital.
The reciprocal operation demonstrated how remote surgical support can be delivered with precision using integrated robotic consoles, high-speed connectivity and coordinated surgical planning. The procedures formed part of the live surgical demonstrations organised under RoboSurg’25, where various robotic interventions were broadcast to participants to underline the expanding role of minimally invasive, tech-enabled surgery in India.
With its participation in the programme and successful execution of the cross-city telesurgeries, GMCH-Nagpur has reinforced its growing position as a centre for advanced robotic surgery and tele-supported procedures. The demonstration underscored the potential for remote collaboration between surgical teams in different cities, laying the groundwork for future applications of robotic technology in expanding access to specialised care.
