The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, is set to introduce an e-hospital system aimed at digitising patient services, streamlining consultations, and reducing paperwork across outpatient and inpatient departments. The initiative is expected to significantly cut waiting times and ease administrative burdens for both patients and medical staff.
The rollout will begin on a pilot basis, gradually expanding across all OPDs and IPDs. The system builds on the hospital’s existing e-office platform, which has already improved administrative efficiency and internal workflow management. Once fully operational, the e-hospital will allow patients to complete registration, access consultations, and receive prescriptions digitally, marking a major shift in the hospital’s service delivery.
A key feature of the system is the integration of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs, enabling a single digital repository for patient medical histories. Patients with an ABHA ID will no longer need to carry physical OPD cards, files, or old prescriptions. Doctors will have instant access to patient records, including past diagnoses and treatments, both in OPDs and IPDs, while prescriptions and treatment plans will be stored digitally and linked to the ABHA ID for future reference.
The hospital has also ensured that the transition to digital services remains inclusive. Patients without ABHA IDs or those unfamiliar with digital systems will continue to access services through traditional methods, with staff assisting throughout the phased rollout.
The pilot phase is scheduled to begin within a week, initially by equipping doctors’ laptops with the system, followed by wider deployment across all hospital departments. GMCH-32 has already digitised most OPD registrations, laboratory reports, and is working to make radiology services and online payment options accessible through UPI.
The new cloud-based e-hospital system is expected to reduce overcrowding at registration counters, improve inter-departmental coordination, and enhance continuity of care. By cutting down paperwork and preventing record duplication, the hospital aims to improve operational efficiency while maintaining accessible, high-quality healthcare services.
With this move, GMCH-32 joins a growing number of public hospitals in India embracing digital solutions to modernise patient care and administrative processes, setting a benchmark for technology-driven healthcare in government institutions.
