Fortis Hiranandani Hospital in Vashi has launched a state-of-the-art Robotic Surgery Program, powered by the next-generation Versius Surgical System. This cutting-edge robotic-assisted platform is set to revolutionize surgical procedures in Gastrointestinal, Urology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pancreatic and Abdominal Oncology, as well as general surgery.
The Versius system replicates the movements of the human arm, enabling surgeons to perform high-precision, minimally invasive surgeries with greater dexterity and control. This innovation marks a significant advancement toward delivering safer, smarter, and more patient-centric surgical care.
The robotic unit will be spearheaded by Dr. Jignesh Gandhi, Senior Consultant – Robotic Surgery, and Dr. Shishir Shetty, Senior Consultant – Surgical Oncology. The team also includes Dr. Ram Khare, Dr. Prakash Sankapal, Dr. Roji Philip, and Dr. Sharad Sharma, all experienced consultants across surgery and urology specialties.
Designed to assist in complex procedures, the system allows for precise control over a range of endoscopic instruments including rigid endoscopes, dissectors, scissors, forceps, needle holders, and electrosurgical tools. These capabilities support a wide array of functions such as dissection, cutting, suturing, and tissue manipulation with remarkable accuracy.
Robotic-assisted surgery offers multiple benefits — smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, minimal scarring, and quicker recovery. For surgeons, it enhances precision and visualization, even in the most challenging procedures, thereby reducing the risk of complications and improving clinical outcomes.
This launch is part of Fortis' broader commitment to advancing technology-driven, patient-focused healthcare. By bringing robotic-assisted surgery to Navi Mumbai, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital continues to elevate standards in surgical care, making world-class treatment more accessible to local communities.
Speaking on the launch, Mr. Nitin Kamaria, Facility Director, said,
"With the introduction of the Versius robotic technology, we’ve significantly strengthened our surgical infrastructure. The integration of robotics with surgical expertise ensures safer, faster, and more effective treatments for our patients. This initiative reflects our ongoing mission to lead with innovation, support our clinical teams with the best tools, and improve the overall patient experience."
The program was inaugurated in the presence of community members, medical professionals, hospital staff, and Dr. S. Narayani, Business Head – Fortis Hospitals, Maharashtra, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s journey toward becoming a center of excellence in robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
