In a major push to enhance Delhi’s healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the revival and transformation of seven hospitals into super-speciality centres, along with a significant expansion of ICU facilities across the city.
Speaking at the inauguration of Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital in Model Town, Gupta stated, “Every rupee of public money must be used responsibly. That’s why we have restarted work on seven hospitals that had remained non-operational since the COVID-19 pandemic.” These hospitals, originally launched during the pandemic to address emergency needs, were left unused in the aftermath. Now, the government is repurposing them to serve as advanced medical facilities.
Gupta emphasized that these hospitals will now go beyond their original ICU-centric purpose to offer comprehensive critical care, including services like dialysis, kidney transplants, oncology, and high-risk maternity care. “These upgraded hospitals will help close the gap in specialised healthcare and improve access to quality treatment for all Delhiites,” she said.
The Chief Minister also called on private hospitals to join hands with the government by registering under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. She highlighted the need for collaboration in building Delhi as a premier medical destination. “Our vision is to make Delhi a healthcare hub that welcomes and supports patients not just from India, but around the world,” Gupta added.
