Taking a major step towards boosting Assam’s healthcare landscape, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday laid the foundation stone for two major medical projects in Sarusajai — Medanta Super-Speciality Hospital by Global Health Limited and Cocoon Mother and Childcare Hospital by RJ Corp Healthcare.
Speaking at the ceremony, CM Sarma said, “Today marks a significant day in the journey of Assam's industrial development, which will have a far-reaching impact on strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure.”
Under the MoUs signed during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, these healthcare projects represent a combined investment of around Rs 800 crore. The Medanta hospital will be built on 3.5 acres of land, while Cocoon Hospital will occupy 1 acre.
Medanta Super-Speciality Hospital: Raising the Bar for Advanced Care
The upcoming Medanta Super-Speciality Hospital in Guwahati is expected to redefine tertiary healthcare in the Northeast. The hospital will offer advanced medical services, including robotic surgeries, and generate 5,000 to 7,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities in healthcare and allied sectors.
With existing hospitals in Gurugram, Indore, Ranchi, Lucknow, Patna, and Noida, Medanta’s Guwahati facility will bring nearly all major super-speciality services to the region. CM Sarma expressed gratitude to Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta Hospitals, for his commitment to expanding quality healthcare in Assam.
Cocoon Mother and Childcare Hospital: Focus on Women and Newborn Health
Highlighting RJ Corp Healthcare’s contribution, CM Sarma said that the Cocoon Mother and Childcare Hospital will ensure world-class maternity and neonatal services for the people of Assam. Cocoon’s flagship facility in Jaipur has already treated over 1.5 lakh patients in the past 12 years, establishing itself as a leading institution for maternal and newborn care.
The Guwahati hospital aims to replicate this success, providing specialised care for mothers and infants locally—reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced treatment.
A Step Toward Medical Tourism and Economic Growth
The integrated healthcare complex in Sarusajai is expected to position Assam as a hub for medical tourism in the Northeast and neighbouring Southeast Asian countries. These investments will not only enhance access to quality healthcare but also drive local employment and strengthen the region’s economy.
Expressing optimism, CM Sarma assured full government support to investors and said both hospitals are expected to be completed within the next two to two-and-a-half years.
