AIIMS Delhi has developed a groundbreaking cervical cancer diagnostic kit under the Make in India initiative. This nanotech-based visual kit can detect cervical cancer caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus) within just two hours of taking a cervix sample. The test is highly affordable, costing only ₹100, compared to the current ₹2,000–6,000 charged at hospitals.
Dr. Subhash Chandra Yadav, Additional Professor at AIIMS Delhi, shared that around 380 patients have been tested with this kit since 2021, with 100% accuracy. The device is easy to use, requires minimal equipment, and reduces patient discomfort significantly.
Developed in collaboration with Dr. Neerja Bhatla (former HOD, Gynecology), Jyoti Meena, Pranay Tanwar, and Shikha Chaudhary, the kit has already earned national recognition as Best Innovation at NBEC 2025, with a patent certificate expected soon.
Currently, cervical cancer screening requires machines worth ₹30 lakh, making it unaffordable for many. This innovation allows even nurses or ASHA workers to conduct the test at small medical centers, expanding accessibility in rural areas.
With cervical cancer claiming a life every seven minutes in India — and WHO reporting 1.27 lakh cases and nearly 80,000 deaths in 2022 — this breakthrough is expected to save countless lives by enabling early and affordable detection.
