AIIMS Bhubaneswar Launches Innovation-Driven Health-Tech Ecosystem to Boost Medical Research and Start-Up Growth

By Team VOH

AIIMS Bhubaneswar has unveiled a new innovation-focused healthcare ecosystem designed to convert health-tech concepts into commercially viable products. The announcement was made during the institute’s 3rd Annual Research Day and 2nd Regional Research Conclave-2025, where 33 start-up ideas and medical technology prototypes were showcased. The initiative aims to strengthen the region’s health-tech landscape by integrating medical research, life sciences, and advanced technology.

As part of its long-term strategy, AIIMS Bhubaneswar is working toward establishing a comprehensive innovation hub that will support the development of new medical technologies. The institute has also expanded its global collaborations by signing MoUs with multiple international universities, including Western Sydney University in Australia, to introduce integrated PhD programmes aimed at nurturing young researchers.

A significant boost to this ecosystem comes from the newly inaugurated Central Research and Skill Laboratory, opened by the Union Health Minister JP Nadda. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to advance multidisciplinary research and enhance skill development capabilities across clinical and biomedical domains.

Looking ahead, AIIMS Bhubaneswar plans to set up a dedicated Bio-Incubation Centre. The centre will play a central role in accelerating innovation across diagnostics, disease forecasting, and AI-enabled healthcare technologies. It will provide end-to-end support to emerging health-tech start-ups, including technical mentorship, product development guidance, and enterprise-building assistance. The goal is to help innovators transform early-stage concepts into market-ready solutions while strengthening the regional medical innovation ecosystem.

The initiative has received strong encouragement from national health authorities, who emphasized that fostering collaboration between healthcare, technology, and entrepreneurial sectors is essential for advancing India’s broader vision of a technologically empowered and self-reliant healthcare system.
