Phyxiom, a new digital healthcare company, has officially launched, introducing advanced technology to revolutionise asthma and COPD management. The platform, developed from over a decade of clinical research led by Professor Richard Costello of RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences and Beaumont Hospital, delivers precise, real-time data to improve diagnosis accuracy, optimise treatment, and reduce unnecessary hospitalisations.
Co-founded by tech leader Grace O’Donnell (CEO), healthcare professional Elaine Mac Hale (Clinical Operations Director), and Prof Costello (Chief Medical Officer), Phyxiom is a spin-out from RCSI. Backed by Enterprise Ireland’s Commercialisation Fund and holding High Potential Start-Up (HPSU) status, the company is poised for rapid growth.
Currently operational across 13 Health Service Executive asthma clinics in Ireland and serving nearly 350 patients, Phyxiom plans to expand nationally, engage private health insurers in 2025, and enter the UK market in 2026, followed by the US in 2027. The technology integrates seamlessly with existing healthcare systems and leading electronic health record platforms.
Prof Costello emphasised that digitally informed care reduces medication use, prevents hospital visits, and lowers healthcare costs, while O’Donnell and Mac Hale highlighted the company’s mission to deliver patient-centric, evidence-based solutions that improve quality of life.
