Epic Systems has launched AI Charting, a built-in artificial intelligence feature for its electronic health record (EHR) platform designed to streamline clinical documentation and support care delivery.
The new capability is available directly within Epic’s software, drawing on information captured across a patient’s medical record to generate clinician notes and assist with orders during patient encounters in real time.
AI Charting is part of a broader set of AI tools that Epic has integrated into its platform for clinicians, operations teams and patients. Within the clinical workflow, the feature automatically listens to clinician-patient interactions, drafts visit documentation and can adjust note structure through voice commands while clinicians focus on patient care. This embedded approach contrasts with standalone AI scribes by operating within the core EHR environment and leveraging the system’s longitudinal patient data.
Epic’s expanded AI suite includes capabilities aimed at administrative and operational functions as well as direct patient support. Tools designed for revenue cycle and hospital operations assist with billing coding workflows and other administrative tasks, while patient-facing features in the MyChart patient portal help with appointment scheduling, billing inquiries and account management. A unified MyChart login across all Epic providers is now live across the United States, facilitating broader access to patient-focused AI assistance.
The rollout reflects Epic’s ongoing efforts to embed artificial intelligence deeper into electronic health records, with the company highlighting adoption of native AI tools that support documentation, operations and patient interactions as health systems increasingly integrate AI into everyday clinical workflows.
