Amazon One Medical has introduced an agentic Health AI assistant within the One Medical app, marking a significant step toward simpler, more personalized, and more actionable healthcare delivery.
Available to One Medical members, the AI-powered assistant provides 24/7 health guidance while actively supporting care coordination, appointment scheduling, lab interpretation, and medication management.
Designed to work from a patient’s existing medical records, the Health AI assistant delivers personalized insights grounded in clinical history, lab results, vaccinations, and current medications. Unlike generic health tools, it does not require users to manually upload data from multiple providers, allowing it to understand individual medical context from the outset. The system operates under HIPAA-compliant privacy and security safeguards.
The assistant helps members navigate a wide range of needs, from answering general and complex health questions to explaining lab reports and offering guidance on symptoms, conditions, treatments, and wellness. It also recommends appropriate care pathways—such as virtual visits, in-person appointments, or urgent care—based on clinical context, and can directly book same-day or next-day appointments. Routine care tasks, including prescription renewals, are streamlined, with the option to fulfill medications through Amazon Pharmacy.
Health AI has been co-developed with One Medical’s clinical leadership and incorporates multiple patient safety guardrails. It is designed to complement, not replace, clinicians by recognizing when medical expertise is required and seamlessly connecting members to their care teams via secure messaging, video consultations, or in-person visits. In cases involving concerning symptoms or criteria that warrant escalation, the assistant guides patients to the appropriate level of care and facilitates timely access to providers.
Patient privacy and data protection remain central to the platform. Conversations with the Health AI assistant are not automatically added to medical records, and health information is secured through strict administrative, physical, and technical safeguards, including encryption and controlled access. Amazon maintains that it does not sell members’ personal or protected health data.
Members retain full control over their experience, with the option to opt out of using the Health AI assistant and continue with the standard One Medical app interface.
The launch reflects Amazon One Medical’s broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into primary care while preserving clinician oversight and strengthening continuity of care.
