Molbio Diagnostics Wins Kochon Prize for Its Portable Molecular Testing Innovation

By Team VOH

Molbio Diagnostics, a leading Indian diagnostic company, has been honoured with the prestigious Kochon Prize by the Stop TB Partnership for its groundbreaking portable molecular diagnostic platform, Truenat. The award recognises Truenat’s transformative role in improving tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis, particularly in remote and resource-limited regions around the world.

A Game-Changer in TB Detection

The Truenat system is a portable, battery-operated Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) device that detects the genetic material of the TB pathogen with high precision. Designed for use in challenging settings, it eliminates the need for sophisticated laboratory infrastructure, uninterrupted power supply, or air conditioning. This enables rapid and accurate point-of-care testing, bringing diagnostics directly to the patient’s first point of contact.

Beyond tuberculosis, Truenat’s versatile design supports testing for multiple infectious diseases, including hepatitis, COVID-19, and human papillomavirus (HPV) — making it a powerful tool in global disease surveillance and control.

Previously, Indian institutions such as the ICMR and Dr. L. S. Chauhan have also received the Kochon Prize, further highlighting India’s leadership in advancing tuberculosis research and innovation.
